Jalandhar, October 17(STN): Local Bodies Minister Balkar Singh on Tuesday said that blood donation was a great service to the society and humanity as it helps in saving many precious lives.
Interacting with the blood donors after inaugurating blood donation camps, Singh said that the ultimate duty of a human being was to help those who were needy and distressed and blood donation was one of the greatest ways to help fellow human beings. He said that the youth of the state should not lag in this field, which was a true service of humanity. He exhorted the youngsters to come forward in maximum numbers to donate blood.
The Minister also asked the youngsters to motivate their peers to become regular voluntary blood donors to ensure sufficient stocks of blood needed for routine and emergency treatment. He said that the mega drive was organized to celebrated the birthday of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Civil Surgeon Dr Raman Sharma said that as many as 583 units of blood were collected in 14 camps held during today’s mega drive. He said that the health department had organized camps in HMV College, Civil Hospital Jalandhar, Nakodar and Phillaur Civil Hospitals and Virsa Vihar and others were held by private hospitals and NGOs.
MLAs Raman Arora, Inderjeet Kaur Mann, AAP senior leaders Prem Kumar and Chairperson Rajwinder Kaur Thiara also inaugurated camps in the various locations.
