DC BEGINS COVID VACCINATION DRIVE AT SPS HOSPITAL WITH 25000 DOSES OF COVIDSHIELD ARRIVE TODAY

Ludhiana, May 31:(STN) Giving further impetus to the Covid vaccination drive in Ludhiana, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today launched the inoculation facility in SPS Hospital, here.

Accompanied by Civil Surgeon Dr. Kiran Ahluwalia Gill, Sharma welcomed the initiative of SPS Apollo Hospital for joining the fight against the deadly disease by procuring 25000 doses of Covidshield from Serum Institute of India.

He said that the vaccination desk would operate from 9 am to 7.30 pm here and those who cannot afford to get the jab in the morning hours due to nature of their job or business, can receive the vaccine in the late evening too.

The Deputy Commissioner told that the drive-through vaccination would also be started here on Sunday and people can visit here via cars, motorcycles, or others and get the vaccine shot while sitting in their respective vehicles.

He told that this would help speed up the vaccination drive and more and more people would be able to get the life-saving jab nearest to their homes by paying nominal charges in the private health institutions whereas vaccine is being offered free through government health centres.

He said that five private hospitals have already started the vaccination drive in their premises and more private health institutions hospitals are asking for the vaccine. He said that those interested can contact the administration.

Sharma said that a total of 7.8 lakh people in Ludhiana have either received first or both doses of a life-saving jab in Ludhiana so far till May 30 and appealed to every eligible to get the shot immediately so that we can avoid the third wave and save precious lives.

He added accelerated vaccination is the solution to prevent another wave of the pandemic and said that the administration is committed to ensuring Ludhianavis fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
