Jalandhar, October 3(STN): District Magistrate (DM) Vishesh Sarangal has banned the harvesting of paddy through combine machines from 7 pm to 8 am in the district.
Exercising the powers under section 144 of CRPC, Sarangal said that only those harvesting combines must be used which have BIS certification. He also exhorted the farmers to refrain from harvesting paddy between 7 pm to 8 am for avoiding high moisture content in the crop which ultimately leads to delay in procurement of their produce.
The DM said that the moisture content increases during the night time and if harvested during night time the farmers may face problem in procurement of their grains in the mandis. In wake of this situation, Sarangal also appealed to the farmers to bring moisture free grains to the market adding that the agriculture department must also make the farmers about this to avoid any sort of inconvenience to them.
