DRAFT ELECTORAL ROLLS FOR JALANDHAR PUBLISHED

Jalandhar, October 27(STN): Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Electoral Officer Vishesh Sarangal on Friday announced the publication of draft electoral rolls of Jalandhar according to which the total number of voters in the district is 16,17,339 of which 8,42,596 men, 7,74,700 women and 43 third genders.
Presiding over a meeting with the officials and representatives of various political parties in his office, the Deputy Commissioner said that special summary revision of electoral rolls of nine assembly constituencies in Jalandhar including Phillaur, Nakodar, Shahkot, Kartarpur, Jalandhar West, Jalandhar Central, Jalandhar North, Jalandhar Cantt and Adampur is being done with reference to January 1, 2024 as the qualifying date. He said that as per draft electoral rolls, there are 198754 electors in Phillaur, 192277 in Nakodar, 180337 in Shahkot, 180613 in Kartarpur, 165178 in Jalandhar West, 169867 in Jalandhar Central, 182020 in Jalandhar North, 184614 in Jalandhar Cantt and 163679 electors in Adampur.
While handing over lists of draft electoral rolls and CD containing soft copy of rolls to the representatives of political parties, Sarangal said that to facilitate people, the draft electoral rolls have been made available with all booth level officers (BLOs) where people can check the rolls and ensure that voters’ lists are accurate. He said that claims and objections can be filed till December 9, 2023 and all claims and objection would be disposed by December 26, 2023.
Sarangal said that if name of any eligible voter has not been included in the draft list, then he or she can contact the concerned BLO or visit special camps at all booths on November 4,5 and December 2 and 3 and final publication of electoral rolls would take place on January 5, 2024.
The Deputy Commissioner said that to facilitate the youth, the Election Commission of India has launched National Voter Services Portal (NVSP) and Voter Helpline App. He said that the youth have to click the link www.nvsp.in for getting them registered as new voters.  Likewise, Sarangal said that the youth can also download Voter Helpline App from Google Play store in their android phone for enrolling them as voters.
DC also said that 13,18 744 electors had already linked their voters cards with their Aadhar and appealed remaining to do the same to achieve 100 percent coverage.
