Election Commission should take action against AAP government for issuing full page advertisement to influence voters in Jalandhar by-election: Akali Dal

Chandigarh, April 12: The Shiromani Akali Dal today accused the Aam Aadmi Party government of violating the election code by issuing full-page advertisements to influence voters in the Jalandhar parliamentary constituency by-election.

In a statement issued here, Akali leader Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema wrote a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner and the Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab and told them that the manner in which the AAP government is violating the election code. They requested the commission to impeach the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and recover the public money spent on the advertisement from the Aam Aadmi Party. The Akali leader also demanded that the officers who have violated the election code by issuing the said advertisement, these officers should also be given strict instructions that they should not issue any more advertisement until the Jalandhar election process is completed.

Dr. Cheema also said that the AAP government is trying to influence the election process in Jalandhar by introducing paid news in electronic and print media and the party also demanded the formation of a special committee to monitor paid news. He said that the Akali Dal will form a committee under the leadership of its legal cell president Advocate Arshdeep Singh Keller to monitor paid news.
