Chandigarh, Aug 18 (STN) : Finally Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested former DGP of Punjab Police Sumedh Singh Saini in a corruption case and in connection with another FIR. The contents of which have not been disclosed. A Punjab Vigilance Bureau official said that Saini himself reached the bureau office at 8 pm and said that he wanted to join the probe into the corruption case against him. Later, during interrogation, it was decided to arrest him, the official said. He said that the legal process after his arrest is on. Details can be shared tomorrow.
Just yesterday, in the disproportionate assets case of former Punjab Police DGP Sumedh Singh Saini, the Punjab-Haryana High Court on the appeal of the Punjab-Haryana High Court to make it mandatory for Vigilance to take any new section before adding any new section. Was reprimanded. The High Court said that he should not misuse the legal process by filing applications again and again and stay within his limits. After this stand of the High Court, Sumedh Singh Saini withdrew his application yesterday.
In the disproportionate assets case, the High Court on August 12, while granting interim bail to Sumedh Singh Saini, ordered him to join the investigation. Along with this, it was also said that he should deposit his passport in the court and do not leave the country. Vigilance had also named Sumedh Singh Saini, Executive Engineer of Public Works Department Nimrat Deep Singh, his father Surendra Singh Jaspal, Ajay Kaushal, Praduman Singh, Paramjit Singh, Amit Singla in the case of making disproportionate assets and corruption.
Former DGP of Punjab Police Sumedh Singh Saini filed an application in the High Court saying that after getting interim bail, Vigilance is changing its strategy and preparing for action by adding new sections in the FIR. He urged the Punjab-Haryana High Court that if the Vigilance wants to take action against him, then first the permission of the Punjab-Haryana High Court should be taken. The Punjab-Haryana High Court has come down heavily on the application of Sumedh Singh Saini, former DGP of Punjab Police, saying that he has already got interim bail and now he should not misuse the judicial process by making fresh demands again and again.
After which today the Punjab Vigilance Bureau has finally arrested Sumedh Singh Saini, former DGP of Punjab Police, in a corruption case. The Punjab Vigilance Bureau official said that the arrest of former Punjab Police DGP Sumedh Singh Saini has also been confirmed.
