GOVERNMENT PREPARED TO TACKLE FLOOD-LIKE SITUATION IN DISTRICT

JALANDHAR, July 9(STN)-Cabinet Minister Balkar Singh and Member Parliament Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal on Sunday conducted a whirlwind tour of the flood-prone areas at Gidderpindi and reviewed flood protection arrangements ahead of the current monsoon season.

The Minister and MP took stock of the preparedness to combat any untoward situation and visited the flood-sensitive villages wherein they called upon the villagers to stay alert in the wake of incessant rains. They said there was no need to be panic as Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led state government was committed to keep people from floods. They mentioned that all necessary arrangements have already been made by the administration to tackle any flood-like situation. The Minister and MP interacted with the people and assured that no stone would be left unturned to ensure their safety from floods.

They mentioned that the district administration has already set up flood control room at district level while senior officials are keeping close tab over the entire situation. They said that requisite protection works were already carried out by the departments concerned to strengthen banks of river Satluj.

The officials told the Minister and MP that the flood protection action plan for this year has already been prepared by the administration. The officials would be keeping a close tab over the river water level during monsoon to prevent any kind of flood-like situation.

They appreciated the preparedness of Jalandhar Administration to combat any flood like situation in the district. They said that administration has already geared up in advance to tackle any untoward situation.
