Power Theft: Enforcement wing carries out special checks, fine of Rs 8.93 lakh charged

Jalandhar, June 24(STN)-In order to curb menace of power thefts, the teams of enforcement wing of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), Jalandhar carried out special checks in different areas of the district.

During the checks, the team charged a total of Rs 8.93 lakh fine against 23 cases of power thefts.

SE (Enforcement), PSPCL Jalandhar said that the teams of enforcement wing of Jalandhar conducted special checks in the areas including village Chak Maidas near Banga, Model Town and Basti Bawa Khel, etc. during night hours on Friday.

He said that the team conducted the check between 9pm and 10pm and found three cases of power theft. These three consumers included a fitness gym centre and two households. The department imposed a total fine of Rs 1.59 lakh on the consumers.

“Meanwhile, during check in the villages near Nakodar, including Bitlan, Raipur Araiyan, jhuggian, Chhole, etc., the teams caught as many as 20 consumers stealing power. The team found an illegal tubewell connection and 19 ‘kundi’ connections in households. The department slapped a fine of total 7.34 lakh on the 20 consumers,” he said while adding that the teams also found four electricity meters which were suspected to be tampered. These meters were seized by the teams.

SE said that the department will continue the drive to nab those involved in stealing power.
