Coonoor, 8 December (STN): In afternoon Mi-17 helicopter of Indian Airforce crashed in the jungle of Nilgiri hill. CDS Gen Bipin Rawat, Madhulika Rawat (Wife of Gen Rawat) were reported onboard chopper.
Big LS Lidder, Lt Col Harjinder Singh, NK Gursewak Singh, NK Jitendra Kumar, L/ NK Vivek Kumar, L/NK B Sai Teja, Hav Satpal were also in the crew of the helicopter. Till now 4 dead bodies have been recovered from the spot.
Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin tweeted, “I am deeply shocked & disheartened on hearing the army chopper with CDS General Bipin Rawat and 13 others has met with an accident near Coonoor. I’ve instructed the local administration to provide all the help needed in rescue operations even as I’m rushing to the spot.”

The Helicopter took off from Delhi to Sulur. Due to technical fault the crash has been reported.
Former CM Punjab, Capt Amrinder Singh tweeted, ” Extremely sad to see the images of the chopper crash with CDS Bipin Rawat and his wife on board. Praying for the safety of all.”
CDS Bipin Rawat has been taken to the Military hospital of Wellington. CDS was travelling to give lecture in Defence Services Staff College Wellington.
